Singapore’s first Mondrian hotel will be built in the heart of the city’s Duxton Hill neighbourhood and is set to open in early 2023. The property is being developed by Craig Road Property Holdings. Mondrian Singapore situated on the now defunct, Chinatown Plaza. The development consist of a newly construction shophouse which It's a 9-storey tall boutique hotel that sits along Neil Rd and Craig Rd.


A collaboration between DP Architects and Studio Carter, Mondrian Singapore will have a lower three-story building in a contemporary take on the famous Singapore “shophouse” building typology. This portion of the hotel has a terracotta roof and colonial-style window shutters and will include the hotel’s premier guest accommodations in loft suites.


Taking on the strong modern interpretation of heritage design brought on by the ID, the signage graphic design should allow the interior to stand out and speak on its own. Thus the graphic elements designed includes subtle details and elements which blends in well with the surrounds but yet having its own quirks.

Mood Images

Using the one line art by Mondrian as well as integrating the linear profile which are seen in the interior space. This route explores the possibilities of integrating continuous line drawings into our signage system to develop the final image in a unique and interesting manner.

Directory Sign

Taking on the concept of a single line drawing, they level numbers are hand bent to shape with a chrome finish.


A script font mimics the concept of using a continuous line. It is seen on the floor listings, given it a sense of elegance and exclusivity.


The other floor listings has a cut out text, with white front face and mirror finish side returns.

PROTOTYPE

Image on the left was done during the first mockup, it was achieved by spray painting and not the design intent.


The signs were later rectified by the contractor and a chrome mirror finish plating was achieved after the revision.

Mondrian Singapore project is still ongoing, therefore it’s a current consolidation of the designs and mockup images that we had done. The project allows us to create a simple effortless looking design but with a twist in the detailing and the material finishes.
